I paint selected forms, trees, shrub lands, clouds; I play with the light to catch the colors I am particularly sensitive to. I try to capture the sight that fascinates me right away, because soon it may be too late. Both nature and the sky are in a constant state of movement and unrest.
Sensitivity to the surrounding beauty, which I possess in my heart, was given to me during my childhood spent in the countryside of the Lublin highlands, in the settlement of Połowy (from Lubartów to Lublin). I am full of humility towards nature (my teacher) and at the same time I am among one of its most passionate eulogists. Some people say "the book of nature" while I use another expression: "a great concert hall". Everything can be found here: the sound of grass, trees, the splash of water, the symphony of sounds and colors that stimulate imagination and heighten experiences to the limits of ecstasy.
I paint every picture differently, taking an individual approach to each. The authenticity of the experience, the lack of pretensions – these are probably the main reasons for the success of my paintings. Among the noise of politicking, lost in the intricate meanders of contemporary art, people are frantically looking for pure tones, peace, reflection, meditation, forgetfulness. I hope that my work responses to such needs.
What am I looking for in painting? What am I getting at? Mainly I am trying to improve myself, to hone my skills. I stick to my direction but sometimes I like to do technical experiments and try new means of expression. I try not to be pigeonholed, and that is why I emphasize that I do not feel that I am only a landscape artist. Portraits have always fascinated me, I have plenty of them in my collection. The portrait is not an addition to the landscape but its continuation – indeed, human beings also belong to nature and are a part of it.
The portrait is a remarkable phenomenon. In nature, a face may irritate, but when it is shifted onto the canvas, it gains new expression. It is a mouth of a normal orientation for a given face, but somehow different; it is an emotion differently expressed. The portrait, in other words, is a look at a well-known face that becomes something new, exploratory and mysterious. It is a contemplation of the human being, and at the same time, of nature.
A painter should have some sort of special characteristics. Besides the skill to paint, he also has to have some psychological, bio-energetic and even psychic predispositions. This is because the power of portraits to hypnotize, to heal, to fascinate and frighten, to silence and to soothe, to sometimes paint themselves in some strange way, to cause miracles and foretell the apocalypse must come from somewhere. Characters from frames become eager friends; they are frank and open, and are unusually helpful. Yes, they are helpful beyond human measure. I wish for each of you to experience this.
"IN DEFENSE OF BEAUTY"
In the face of annihilation of creative ideas and the achievement accumulated through millennia, I wish to prevent the total destruction of minds and hearts that are sensitive to beauty. I dream that everyone be aware of the dependance on the harmonious coexistence, reverence and divinity of all beings, regardless of gender, race and beliefs.
I turn away from currently fashionable activities aimed at shocking through scandals, from the demolition of existing values, from the destruction of authority and the creation of anti-art as the supreme form of art of the 21st century.
The defense of beauty is the main driving force for my passion of painting. It helps me get through my creative struggles, and in creating works based on the love I have of the world around us.
I have been in touch with the beauty of the Lublin region from an early age. I grew up among cornfields, cornflowers, camomiles, corncockles, with scented buckwheat and blue linen, surrounded by a landscape of morning stubbles, bifurcated willows, ravines, peat bogs and meadows up to the blue horizon.
The beauty of the Lublin landscape was the motivation and inspiration for several thousand of my paintings. I saved withering flowers, dill, old pots, onions and garlic to use in my compositions. All this grew in my mind to create a symbol of everlasting values, such as earth, water and fire
“Fashion fades – Beauty remains.”
